Question: The electricity in my house keeps shutting off?

Its a 2 story 3 bedroom house built in about 1997

recently within the last 2 days the electricity in the down stairs area kitchen and living room area have been shutting off at about the same time between 7 and 8 thirty

what could be the problem

Additional Details
and when this happens the refrigerator still works

but all the lights lamps and the tv shuts off and doesn't work Best

Answer chosen by asker:

The breaker that you describe is tripped. It sensed an overload or a fault and cut power to the circuit to save your wiring and your house (and maybe your life). What you are doing is resetting it. Now comes the fun part...

Why did it trip? Either overloaded circuit (the space heater that was mentioned is a good candidate for this) or short-circuit in the wiring.

This house is not too old. While not impossible, it is unlikely that the breaker is bad. It is probably working fine and doing exactly what its manufacturer designed and built it to do.

Call a licensed electrician, if necessary, and find the cause very soon or the breaker may stop doing its job. This is a good way to meet your local professional firefighters and see them in action, up close and personal.
